This periodical was born from the need of the compilers (F. Bonamici - M. Carlo Caputo - C. de Ferrariis - GA Limoncelli - A. Morgigni - L. Palmieri - FI Polidoro - M. Ruta - F. Taglioni), previously guests of the ' 'Gazzetta Musicale di Napoli'' (published between 1852 and 1868 by Girard), to have its own autonomy. The ''Monitore del Circolo Bonamici'', published from 1865 to '67, was the organ of the most important association founded in Naples in those years. In addition to organizing concerts, conferences and competitions, it set up a music library for its members and, above all, he organized the First Italian Musical Congress in 1864.
