A rugged and wooded mountain district, Sabina always remained secluded; its peculiar characteristic could be defined as its vocation for isolation. And the face of the capital Rieti and of the main centers is still medieval today: Amatrice and Antrodoco with their Romanesque-Gothic churches, the Franciscan Greccio where the nativity scene was born, Leonessa with its fourteenth-century frescoes, Cittaducale of Angevin foundation and the great abbey of Farfa.
