Note: The chapters of the first part of the book, which deal with Florentine and Tuscan art, were written by Luciano Berti, except for the one on Piero della Francesca (pages 44-45). Caterina Caneva contributed to the chapters of the second part, i.e. on Italian painting excluding Florentine and Tuscan and on foreign painting, and also wrote the aforementioned chapter on Piero dela Francesca. Commentaries accompanying the illustrations are contributed by Alison Wright.
