Third publication by Carlo Bo, printed in 200 numbered copies and a special edition of which this copy is part. An important theorist of hermeticism and scholar of French literature (to be remembered, in this context, Jacques Rivière, 1935; Of the youthful images of Sainte-Beuve, 1938; Studies in French literature, 1940), he dedicated himself to teaching at the University of Urbino, of which he was the rector for over fifty years. His critical investigations into surrealism and Stéphane Mallarmé are notable. He also dealt with Spanish literature with The Poetry of Juan Ramon Jiménez and an anthology of Spanish Narrators. A thinker of Catholic culture, with his critical work he always seeks to deepen the spiritual dimension of his literary investigation.
