This volume inaugurates the ''Treasures of Sicily'' series, dedicated to the works of Sicilian writers, historians and scholars otherwise destined to remain hidden in dusty private libraries.
Here is the anastatic reprint, including precious engravings, of the ''Brief report on the fires of Mongibello which occurred in this year 1669'' written by Tommaso Tedeschi, a detailed chronicle of the eruption that partially destroyed the city of Catania. The first attempt by a group of daring individuals to ''divert the course of the fire'' to prevent it from reaching inhabited centers dates back to that year.
From the Publisher's presentation: '' (...) The research of now disappeared texts and their diffusion fall within the spirit of valorization of Sicilian culture that we propose ''.
In the appendix, the journalist Puccio Corona recalls the experiment, which he witnessed, of diverting the lava flow in 1983 attempted by a group of volcanologists led by prof. Franco Barberi and the preparations that led to the so-called ''boom day'', an event broadcast live all over the world.
